Identifying Best Practices

Enhanced Surveillance at Erickson Senior Living CCRCs

After 10+ years of failing to get the Ashby Ponds Resident Advisory Council (RAC), its management agent Erickson Senior Living, and the Virginia SCC to respond to complaints with facts and legal citations, I setup the Ashby Ponds Residents Association (APRA) on Substack — https://ashbypondsresidentsassociation.substack.com/

Sunday’s post on Substack — “Erickson Senior Living Unifying Security,” describes Erickson Senior Living moving toward “enhanced surveillance” of all residents — including those in Independent Living.

The “enhanced surveillance” is similar to what hotels employ. Hotels have distinctly different needs, and are not subject to the Virginia Landlord Tenant Act.

Like sunshine laws intended to promote transparency in government, APRA intends to promote accountability and change by casting light on issues at Ashby Ponds.

Any resident may lead an APRA Task Force to address a relevant issue either alone or with other residents. APRA will provide the infrastructure. There is no permanent hierarchy.

As Facilitator, I will NOT accept any position in APRA.

Is anyone aware of communities that are successfully dealing with the issues presented in this outstanding essay? If so, how are they doing it?

I just published a long article about how NaCCRA should identify best practices. Like many of the topics I write about, this one has great discussion possibilities because it asks the reader to think or rethink what their CCRC is and what it should be. The Senior Housing Sector is subject to many disruptive forces these days. Clarify your stand by discussing this topic in your community.
