One of the reasons I chose to live at Panorama in Lacey, WA was their CARF certification. The five-year certification ended two years into my residency. Management chose not to renew the certification. The reason given was that the certification was no longer needed because Panorama now has a lengthy waiting list.
That is indeed true. Last I heard the waiting list numbers well over 1000.
However, I was chagrined to find out that the CARF certification was sought not as a way to insure certain standards are met, in the interested of providing stellar service, but rather as a marketing tool. I'd mistakenly thought that the focus was on providing service to residents, rather than using certification as a marketing tool.
This might be a reason that the community is no longer CARF certified. Our management feels it is expensive and time consuming and they don't "need" it. Do residents need it?
