Sometimes our communities can be too self-contained. We do a good job of taking care of each other as fellow residents, but may not look beyond our campus enough. But we are part of the larger culture and economy of our towns and counties.
Here at Pennswood Village, we host Meals on Wheels as a community service. Historically, we've sought to be good neighbors, contributing voluntarily in a number of ways. Recently one group of residents launched a program to support the local food pantry. It's called the Neighborhood Food Project, but it is known among residents as the Green Bag because those who participate get a green shopping bag to fill with food for the pantry.
Rising food prices and shrinking safety nets are exacerbating the problem of hunger in all of our towns. The green bag may be a popular way for you and your community to help. Check out the attached article.
