Medicare Hospitalization/Health Care Admission
Author Last Post

Anecdotal information only is all that is available to me on this inquiry. One case where I live involved a resident with a fall injury who fell into the three day in the hospital Medicare requirement. This resident was discharged to a lengthy stay in our nursing home unit. The Class A contract covered the shortfall from the Medicare coverage, and the figure was significant.

Since I'm not a lawyer, I can't comment on types of contracts and what they cover.

That is a good question, so thank you.

Allegedly some CCRC Life Care Contracts provide for a specific number of days annually in residential skilled nursing if the Medicare requirement of a minimum of three consecutive inpatient hospital days (not counting the discharge day) for reimbursement is NOT met. This is a great advantage as more hospitals discharge patients as early as possible particularly for some surgeries.

If anyone has experience with this, please share any policies and procedures that apply. Thank you.
