Deposit homes and natural disasters
Author Last Post

For those living in CCRCs with deposit homes (where the resident provides a large sum of cash to the CCRC owner/operator in order to be able to move in, and this money generates interest that helps offset the monthly fees), does your community consider loss of home due to natural disaster (for us here in Oregon it is wildfire) the functional equivalent of moving out of your home, thereby returning to you the deposit amount specified in your residential contract? If yes, how does your community fund what could be a large outlay of cash (reserve fund, escrow account, insurance policy, etc.)?
