Although and effective state Ombudsman with regulatory "teeth" would be desirable. Some residents won't live long enough for the change to benefit them. In the meantime, there are many other paths to conflict resolution. Let's explore those here on the GETTING HELP & Ombudsman Forum.

The mediation available through the Office of Insurance Regulation has not proven to be helpful. Mediation only works if both sides are willing to compromise. If the provider is unwilling to compromise the resident just meets with another brick wall. The Board does not get involved in resident complaints.

I (Kay Roberts) am disabled and use a wheelchair. I live alone at CCRC Medford Leas in Medford New Jersey. Our state of New Jersey has a disability ombudsman that is very helpful but little protection for residents of CCRCs. We need a national bill of rights plus we need CCRCs that are resident-centered.

CEOs of successful CCRCs are using residents as partners to recruit new residents. At my CCRC, Medford Leas in Medford New Jersey residents contacts resulted in 70% of new residents.
