The concept of adapting hotels and malls is underway in the greater Kansas City area, but to accommodate the working homeless. The proposals would include expanded services to help persons get on their feet, with the goal of leaving the shelter. The concept is not that different from adapting them for retirees.

Retailing has changed in the last two decades. Regional malls are being repurposed by converting big box anchor stores into housing units. The mall layout, like a climate-controlled village under one roof, could accommodate a continuum of care for seniors in addition to conventional housing. Has anyone heard of this sort of innovation?
