How can we improve the NaCCRA Forum?
Richmond

FORUM USERS

The NaCCRA Board of Directors has created a team to consider and make improvements to the Forum pages. We invite your suggestions and ideas. You will see some changes immediately, others will evolve in September and October 2024.

We know you lead busy lives, and we'd be grateful if you would take a few moments to share what you like and what you wish would be different.

That's good news. I am curious: what kind of changes do you anticipate making? Thanks,

Susan

The general thrust is to make it more useful to members. We have some ideas, but I want to discover what people like you like and want. I'll share ideas here, and I plan to do a survey of frequent users. This is *our* forum, meaning the members of NaCCRA. Ideas and solutions should come from members. Together we constitute a genius!

Ann MacKay

I was on the Board when we switched to Club Express. The Forum titles were not set up with any categorization in mind so It is a good idea to make changes. I would suggest fewer categories in the future. The bankruptcies/Defaults could become Financial Soundness or Distress. Governance could be an category.

I am a believer that more should be more members only. What are the benefits of membership if everything is available for free?

Richmond

What categories would you like to see?

Judith Kaufmann

I find it cumbersome to get to the threads, see what a reply refers to, and even reply. A simpler interface would be appreciated.

Richmond

Judith,

I don't yet know what's possible with our Club Express system. If you are aware of better options, forums that are less cumbersom, please give us a link to check out.

As this forum is now, I find the threads view helps me to locate the original question and see the replies indented. What would make it better?

Richmond

Networking is one of the chief benefits of NaCCRA membership. The forums are a networking tool. Would more localized forums be useful? (e.g. a State level or even a community level forum.)

NaCCRA is not the place state level forums and definitely not for community level forums. Please encourage those who post to name their state and community.

Here in Maryland MaCCRA has io groups with emails and I can't capture a whole thread. I love the NaCCRA forums and abiltiy to see a whole thread.

I agree with Ann MacKay that fewer categories would be helpful.

Lorraine,

I belong to a groups.io forum, and there definitely is the ability to see the entire thread. Just login to the MaCCRA page on the groups.io website.

Richmond

Lorraine,

NaCCRA has the capability to host "members only" forums for its state affiliates and local chapters. Thus these regional groups can have and moderate their own individual forums. In general it will be more affordable and sustainable because, unlike Google Groups, and Groups.io, it's part of the ClubExpress service with support from Club Express and from NaCCRA volunteers like me.

A very useful improvement would be to make it possible to search for all the messages of a particular person. I recently saw a message that I wanted to pay particular attention to, but didn't have the time for that in the moment. Then maybe a couple of weeks went by. Now I have no way of finding it that wouldn't be very time-consuming.

The present search function includes "Posted by (handle)", but entering something in the "Search for" box is mandatory. I tried several words, such as "the", that would be found in any message, but that didn't work.

Another forum in which I participate, on groups.io, provides this via clicking on the handle of any message. I.e. if you want to see all my messages here, you would just click on "Philippa Strahm" at the beginning of this message.

I'm in agreement, Philipa.

A post appears in my email, but when I go the the Forum, it is not so easy to find. Then I must open several posts with the "new " tag until I find it. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. More people are using our Forums, so perhaps we can do something.

Maura,

The modification would be to not require that the "Search for" box be filled in when the "Posted by (Handle)" box is filled in.
