Ms. Martin, I live at Goodwin House, Alexandria, VA. Our medical records are stored within MatrixCare, a software system that seems to be used here by a wide variety of internal departments, including medical records. My understanding is that what is retained in this way is largely limited to what we have self-reported as to allergies, pre-existing conditions, medications, POA, etc. This information is shared by the institution with the hospital when one of the residents is sent to the ER. Since Goodwin House includes a skilled nursing facility and rehab unit, this information sharing allows our administration to track our admission status, and coordinate the discharge and return to an appropriate level of living.
We also have a resident medical director who is a qualified geriatrician, and who is affiliated with one of the local hospitals.
My personal opinion is that the medical records maintained by this physician through the hospital, and shared with EPIC are the most up-to-date and informative. As you may know, EPIC holds 78% of the medical records in the U.S. It is used by most major hospital systems and many doctor's offices.
Unfortunately, I believe Matrixcare and EPIC are not interoperable; so, our "in-house" records are not visible to EPIC, and vice versa.
